Goat Island in Sydney Harbour
1835 men from Brisbane Water have sentences of transportation for life to Van Diemens Land commuted to two years labour in irons on Goat Island. At this site of attempted re-education, men from Wyong, Lake Macquarie, Brisbane Water & Tuggerah Beach cut stone in quarries, are taught English and given religious instruction. Rev Threlkeld supports the accused in court and visits the incarcerated on Goat Island: Charlie Muscle, Currinbong Jemmy, Leggamy, Little Dick (Bonrabare), Little Freeman, Major Monkey, Tom Jones, and Whip-Em-Up.
